Turkey Summer

Straight Grillin’ – Puckett’s Turkey Burger Recipe

Ah… Memorial weekend! Barring Fourth of July, we can’t think of a more patriotic holiday. It brings to mind sunny skies, American flags, cold brew, country on the radio and backyard grilling. (And of course we always take time to remember the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. Members of the own Marshall family have recently served in the military, so the day hits particularly close to home.)

If you’re like us & planning to spend time with loved ones around the grill, we put together a fun–and festive–recipe to please the folks. Think avocado, applewood-smoked bacon, chipotle sauce, pretzel buns…..

If you try it, be sure to take a picture & tag us in it so we can share! {psssst: this recipe also appeared in the Chattanooga Times Free Press today!}

– PUCKETT’S [SUMMER] TURKEY BURGER –

Puckett’s Turkey Patty

  • 1 Pound Ground Turkey

  • 1/4 Cup Diced Celery

  • 1/4 Cup Diced Yellow Onion

  • 1 Tbl Chopped Fresh Sage

  • 1/2 Tbl Granulated Garlic

  • 1/2 Tbl Lawry’s Season Salt

  • 1/2 Tbl Ground White Pepper

  • 1 Tbl Butter

Puckett’s Chipotle Sauce

  • 1 Cup Ranch

  • 1 Tbl Chopped Bacon

  • 1 tsp Puréed Chipotles

Turkey Burger Accoutrements

  • Swiss cheese

  • Bacon (we prefer apple-wood smoked bacon)

  • Avocado

  • Bun (we prefer a wheat or pretzel bun)

Directions

In a small sauce pan, sauté the celery and onion until soft. Allow the celery and onions to cool for 10 minutes. In a mixing bowl combine the ground turkey, sautéed celery, onions and spices. Mix well. Allow the mixture rest in the refrigerator for at least one hour (if time allows). Take your turkey burger mix out of the refrigerator. Portion into several patties, depending on the size you like (our picture here shows slider size – but it’s your preference!). Place the burgers on a well oiled grill. You will cook the burgers on medium high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, varying depending on size. Internal temperature should reach 165 degrees. Remove from grill.

Cook bacon in a skillet over medium to medium-high heat, then chop. Separately, mix ranch dressing, chopped bacon and puréed chipotles well, until creamy.

Take the perfectly seasoned, handmade turkey burger and top with Swiss cheese, bacon strips, fresh avocado slices, and a drizzle of our chipotle sauce on top. Sandwich between a bun–we prefer pretzel, but if you can’t find them wheat is just as tasty–and serve to your guests’ delight!
